I. Overview
While there are numerous methods to harness solar energy, few are well-suited to China’s specific circumstances, such as ultra-high-power solar power stations or home rooftop systems. However, solar-powered streetlights represent a straightforward and easily implementable solution. With over 100 million streetlights currently in use across China, converting just 60 million of them to solar streetlights could save an amount of electricity exceeding the output of the Three Gorges Dam annually. Furthermore, if all 20 million newly installed streetlights were to adopt solar technology, the cumulative energy savings over three years would equate to another Three Gorges Dam. This level of energy conservation is both significant and achievable without requiring nationwide efforts, relying instead on local government initiatives and the support of relevant enterprises.

II. Challenges and Opportunities
Despite the obvious advantages of solar streetlights, several challenges remain. The initial investment cost can be high, and maintenance requirements may vary depending on the region. Additionally, advancements in technology continue to drive down costs while improving efficiency, making solar streetlights increasingly viable even in less affluent areas.
