Extraterrestrial Guest - Cooler Master Cooler Master UFO G100M Unpacking

At the Taipei Computer Show in June last year, Cooler Master introduced two concept radiators that caught a lot of attention. These designs were eye-catching and sparked interest among tech enthusiasts. One of them was called "MasterAir Maker 3DLV," which featured a large volume with two big heat sinks, three 120mm fans, and four square closed heat pipes. It looked like it could potentially interfere with memory installation. However, this cooling solution hasn’t been released commercially yet. The other design was the predecessor to today’s main subject — the "Heat Column Concept." After being in development for up to seven months, it finally made its appearance on Jingdong. When I first opened the box, I was immediately impressed by how different the Cooler Master U100M looked compared to the Heat Column Concept from seven months ago. The fan now has RGB lighting instead of a matte black finish, and in the lower right corner, you can see RGB certifications from several companies. On both sides of the box, there are detailed features and specifications of the radiator. It includes an RGB fan and fully enclosed heat pipes, where the heat pipes are completely wrapped by the fins, making them invisible from the outside. This design is similar to the one found on the AMD Ryzen R7 1700, known for its efficient cooling performance. The fan speed ranges from 600 to 2400 RPM (PWM ± 10%), with an airflow of 22.63 CFM ± 10%. The fan size is 100x100x25mm, and the maximum diameter of the radiator is still quite large at 145mm. The back of the box highlights the importance of this heat sink in multiple languages. With a height of 74.5mm, it's more suitable for SFF (Small Form Factor) and HTPC (Home Theater PC) builds. Inside the box, the radiator is well-protected with black shock-absorbent foam. Upon opening, I noticed no deformation on the fins, which is a good sign of quality packaging. Visually, the radiator resembles a shiitake mushroom. Compared to the earlier "Heat Column Concept," the U100M looks more refined. The cylindrical shape of the fins seems to be a key enhancement, likely increasing the surface area for better heat dissipation and also raising the fan section to avoid memory conflicts. When flipped over, you can see the brushed base of the radiator and the connection between the heat sink and the fan. It's easy to separate the fan from the heat sink using just a needle, which makes cleaning the radiator much simpler. The U100M comes with two RGB interfaces to support different RGB lighting requirements. Alongside the radiator, there are various accessories: silicon grease, a lighting controller, dimmer control cable, and RGB pins. Also included are warranty instructions and installation diagrams. Installation is straightforward, but due to the radiator's large size, even ATX motherboards may have some areas blocked. If your memory modules are high, they might cause conflicts during installation. For example, with a Ten Commanders Nighthawk motherboard, I had to install the memory first before mounting the cooler to fit into the 2nd and 4th positions. If you're using taller memory, you might not be able to install it in the 1st or 2nd slot, which could prevent dual-channel operation. So, it's always a good idea to check your memory compatibility before purchasing. Once installed, the radiator performed well. When pushing the AMD Ryzen R7 1700 to 3.8GHz, the temperature remained stable during a few hours of gaming. Even with a 10cm fan, the cooling performance was impressive. After running Cinebench R15 six times, the temperature reached up to 67°C, and it dropped quickly after the test stopped. In summary: **Advantages:** - Unique and modern design with RGB lighting. - Excellent cooling performance, ideal for HTPC builds. **Disadvantages:** - Not compatible with all memory modules. - Can be noisy when running at full speed. Motive Battery

Motive batteries are specialized energy storage devices engineered to deliver high power output, endurance, and reliability for the propulsion of various types of electric vehicles. Unlike conventional batteries used in stationary applications or for small electronics, motive batteries are built to withstand the rigorous demands of continuous movement, vibrations, and temperature variations.

What is a motive battery?

A motive battery stands out as a unique type of battery, tailored specifically for propelling electric vehicles. These batteries are distinct from those used in stationary settings or smaller electronics. They are designed to withstand the challenges of continuous operation, including constant movement, varying temperatures, and vibrations. They represent a critical component in the shift towards eco-friendly transportation and renewable energy.

Types of Traction Batteries

Sealed Lead Acid Batteries (VRLA/AGM):
These are Valve-Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) batteries, often using Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) technology.
Known for their robustness and cost-effectiveness, they are used in a range of electric vehicles, though their weight and lower energy density compared to newer technologies are notable.

LithiumIon Batteries:
Dominating the modern EV market, lithium-ion batteries are prized for their high energy density and efficiency.
They offer longer life spans and faster charging times compared to lead-acid batteries, making them ideal for electric cars and high-performance vehicles.

Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) Batteries:
These batteries are often found in hybrid vehicles.
They provide a balance between cost, energy density, and environmental friendliness, though they are gradually being overshadowed by lithium-ion technology.

Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries:
Known for their safety and stability, these batteries are gaining popularity in applications where safety is a major concern, such as in e-bikes and electric scooters.
They offer a good balance between life span, energy density, and safety, making them a preferred choice in specific segments of the EV market.

Each type of motive battery brings its unique strengths and is chosen based on the specific requirements of the vehicle and its intended use. Together, they play a pivotal role in the advancement of eco-friendly transportation and the broader adoption of renewable energy technologies.

Features of Electric Vehicle Battery

High Energy Density: Motive batteries are designed to store a large amount of energy in a relatively small space, enabling electric vehicles to travel significant distances on a single charge.
Durability and Longevity: These batteries are engineered to endure numerous charge-discharge cycles over their lifespan, making them a reliable source of power for electric vehicles.
Fast Charging Capabilities: Modern motive batteries often feature advanced technologies that allow for rapid charging, reducing downtime and enhancing the usability of electric vehicles.
Environmental Friendliness: By employing rechargeable systems and often utilizing less toxic materials, motive batteries contribute to reducing pollution and dependency on fossil fuels.
Safety Features: Safety is a critical aspect, and these batteries are equipped with various mechanisms to prevent overheating, overcharging, and other potential hazards.

Motive Power Battery Usage Scenario

Electric Vehicles (EVs): They are predominantly used in passenger cars, offering a cleaner alternative to internal combustion engines.
Electric Trains: Motive batteries are an integral part of modern electric train systems, providing efficient and eco-friendly mass transit solutions.
Electric Bicycles and Scooters: These batteries enable the widespread use of electric bikes and scooters, particularly useful in urban areas for short-distance travel.
