Qualcomm and Microsoft's ready to connect new computer products are about to start selling

In January 2018, Qualcomm and Microsoft officially launched their new Always Connected PC products, marking a significant step for Qualcomm into the global notebook market. While there have been mixed reactions in the industry, Qualcomm believes that these devices could capture over 30% of the global notebook market. The Always Connected PC concept is not only about cloud services but also aims to offer seamless connectivity for personal mobile devices. With the arrival of 5G technology, this idea is set to revolutionize user experiences. Qualcomm's strategy extends beyond notebooks, as it plans to apply its Windows on Snapdragon (WoS) solution to Chromebooks and other smart devices from various manufacturers and telecom operators worldwide. Several major brands, including ASUS Nova Go, HP ENVY X2, and Lenovo Miix 630, were among the first to adopt Qualcomm’s WoS system in 2018. More brands are expected to follow, with additional Always Connected PCs launching in 2019. Although the initial models used the Snapdragon 835 chip, Qualcomm announced that by 2019, all new Always Connected PCs would be powered by the next-generation Snapdragon 845, promising improved performance and better battery life. According to Fram Akiki, a senior researcher at Qualcomm and Microsoft, user surveys showed that the primary needs of PC and notebook users revolve around internet access and social media. These habits closely mirror smartphone usage, making mobile computing platforms highly relevant. As a result, Qualcomm and Microsoft focused on creating a solution that supports daily tasks, such as office work and study, while offering constant internet connectivity. The WoS system was introduced with a price range of $600 to $900, targeting users who value long battery life and always-on connectivity. The Always Connected PC concept has gained strong support from global PC and notebook manufacturers, as well as telecom operators like Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and China Telecom. Even Chinese smartphone brands entering the notebook market have shown interest. For Qualcomm, this move not only strengthens its position in mobile computing but also opens up new opportunities in the growing NB and PC market. With 5G expected to take off in the second half of 2018 and the rise of cloud-based services, the potential for growth is immense. Many business strategies, marketing plans, and commercial interests surrounding Always Connected PCs are already being developed, indicating a long-term commitment to this innovative platform.
