PCI

Local bus (the bus is a high-speed channel used by the computer to transfer information from one device to another), the English name is Peripheral Component Interconnection. A specification developed by Inter to define a local bus. This specification allows up to 10 PCI-compliant expansion cards to be installed in the computer. The PCI bus system requires a PCI control card that must be installed in a PCI slot. Depending on the implementation, the PCI controller can exchange 32-bit or 64-bit data with the CPU at a time, which allows the smart PCI secondary adapter to perform tasks in parallel with the CPU using a bus mastering technology. PCI allows multiplexing, which allows more than one electronic signal to exist on the bus at the same time.
