At the China Mobile (microblogging) Global Partner Conference held today, Chairman Shang Bing shared key updates on the company's network expansion and user growth. As of now, China Mobile has deployed 3.23 million mobile base stations, including 1.79 million 4G towers, serving over 1 billion users across various segments.
Among these users, 880 million are mobile subscribers, while more than 100 million are home users. There are nearly 6 million government and enterprise users, and over 200 million Internet of Things (IoT) connections have been established. The user and revenue structure is continuously evolving, with 4G users making up over 71% of the total. Mobile data traffic has become the primary revenue driver for the company.
China Mobile reported that it now has over 160 million VoLTE users, and the average monthly data usage per household (4G DOU) exceeds 2.1 GB. New business areas such as government services, smart homes, and industry solutions are becoming major contributors to revenue growth.

Looking ahead, China Mobile believes the Smart Internet of Everything is entering a period of rapid connectivity growth. It's estimated that by 2020, global connected devices will reach 29 billion, with 18 billion being IoT-related. These connections are expected to be concentrated in sectors like urban development, manufacturing, logistics, home automation, security, transportation, healthcare, and education—offering new opportunities for the telecom industry.
Shang Bing also announced that China Mobile plans to add 120 million new IoT connections in 2018, pushing the total beyond 320 million. This expansion is set to boost the business and revenue potential for both consumer and enterprise customers.
In terms of strategic planning, China Mobile has launched its "139" comprehensive cooperation initiative. This includes promoting the NB-IoT network, establishing three key industry alliances—the Internet of Things Industry Alliance, the Digital Home Cooperation Alliance, and the 5G Lianchuang Center—and developing nine application scenarios.
Regarding 5G, the company is accelerating the maturity of 5G technology and building a robust ecosystem, with commercial deployment expected by 2020. This marks an important step forward in China Mobile’s vision for the next phase of digital transformation.
