This year, Apple officially launched the 10th-anniversary special edition iPhone X, which features an all-OLED display sourced entirely from Samsung. At present, most of the AMOLED screen production capacity is controlled by Samsung, and only their OLED panels meet Apple's strict quality and performance standards. This is why Samsung has become the sole supplier of iPhone X displays.

Apple has also been in talks with LG Display for potential AMOLED screen supply. While Apple hasn't always relied on a single supplier, this move seems to be more about ensuring stability and diversification. Recently, Apple announced a deal with LG Display, under which the company will supply around 60 million AMOLED screens for future iPhone models. Production is expected to begin in June next year.

Currently, Samsung dominates the small and medium-sized OLED market. However, Apple’s decision to bring in LG Display could mark a shift in its supply chain strategy. LG Display has responded by stating that the final agreement for supplying OLED panels for the iPhone X is still pending, but industry insiders believe the deal is likely to go through.

The partnership between Apple and LG Display could prove to be mutually beneficial. For LG, it represents a significant opportunity to expand its presence in the premium smartphone market. For Apple, having a second supplier would help reduce dependency on Samsung and potentially improve negotiation power. This collaboration could set a new standard in the industry, showing how tech giants can work together to drive innovation and efficiency.
