In the Docker ecosystem, there's a tool called Docker-Machine. Its main purpose is to simplify the installation of Docker across different operating systems. Whether you're using any Linux distribution or even Windows and macOS, the command to set up a Docker environment remains consistent. This makes it easier for users to manage Docker on various platforms without worrying about platform-specific differences.
Docker-Machine also allows you to manage multiple remote Docker hosts, which is especially useful when working with distributed systems or cloud environments. The following image illustrates the installation process of Docker-Machine on CentOS 7:

Although I didn't test Docker-Machine on Windows, the steps below show how I installed it on CentOS 7. After going through the process, I found that setting up Docker-Machine wasn't as straightforward as installing Docker directly, at least on CentOS 7. It required several additional steps and dependencies, which made the experience less smooth.
The experiment was conducted on a VMware virtual machine, so I had to enable CPU virtualization support in the BIOS. Here's a screenshot of the settings:

I also upgraded the kernel to the latest version. To be safe, I updated all RPM packages on the system using `yum update`. After rebooting, I installed the kernel development libraries with the command `yum install -y kernel-devel`.
Next, I configured the VirtualBox YUM repository by downloading the official VirtualBox repo file:

cd /etc/yum.repos.d
wget http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/rpm/rhel/virtualbox.repo
```
Then I installed VirtualBox, which is required for Docker-Machine to work properly:
```bash
yum install -y VirtualBox-5.2
```
After that, I ran the configuration script:
```bash
vboxconfig
```
Now, I moved on to installing Docker-Machine. The latest version at the time was 0.13.0:
```bash
curl -L https://github.com/docker/machine/releases/download/v0.13.0/docker-machine-`uname -s`-`uname -m` > /usr/local/bin/docker-machine
chmod a+x !$
```
To create a Docker host, I used the following command:
```bash
docker-machine create --driver virtualbox my-host
```
However, the process required downloading an ISO file, and due to network issues, the download failed. Despite this, I managed to get a good understanding of how Docker-Machine works.
In conclusion, unless you specifically need Docker-Machine for managing multiple Docker hosts, it’s not recommended to use it for setting up Docker on Linux. The setup process is quite tedious and not as user-friendly as the standard Docker installation.

- **Start a machine:**
`docker-machine start [arg...]`
- **Stop a machine:**
`docker-machine stop [arg...]`
- **Restart a machine:**
`docker-machine restart [arg...]`
Overall, Docker-Machine is a powerful tool for managing Docker hosts, but its complexity might not be worth it for simple setups.
