Linear Technology Corporation has launched a new precision RF power detector, the LTC5564. This device operates over a wide frequency range of 600MHz to 15GHz and offers an impressive 7ns response time for fast RF pulse signals. It also features an internal fast comparator with a propagation delay of just 9ns. The threshold voltage can be adjusted by the user, providing a flexible trip point for different applications.
The LTC5564's output can be latched using a latch enable pin, making it ideal for capturing short-duration, single-event signals or detecting faults quickly. Its advanced performance delivers exceptional speed in timing measurements, rapid fault detection, and accurate RF power measurement in microwave systems. This makes it a powerful tool for engineers working in high-frequency environments.
The device is capable of measuring RF input signals ranging from -24dBm to +16dBm. A programmable gain output amplifier with four gain settings—controlled via two binary-weighted logic input pins—enhances sensitivity when measuring low-level signals. Additionally, the output amplifier’s bandwidth supports envelope demodulation of RF-modulated signals up to 75MHz. A built-in temperature compensation circuit ensures stable and repeatable RF power measurements across varying environmental conditions.
The LTC5564's high speed and wide frequency range make it suitable for a variety of applications, including microwave communications, telemetry, radar detection, RF power amplifier monitoring, automatic level control, test instrumentation, and cellular networks. It is powered by a single 3.3V or 5V supply and consumes about 44mA in standard mode. The device is designed to operate within a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
