Linear Technology Corporation has launched a new precision RF power detector, the LTC5564, which operates across an impressive frequency range of 600MHz to 15GHz. This device is designed for applications requiring ultra-fast response times, with a detection speed of just 7ns. It also includes a built-in fast comparator that offers a propagation delay of 9ns, making it ideal for capturing short-duration or transient signals.
The LTC5564 allows users to set the comparator’s threshold voltage, offering flexibility in determining the trip point. Additionally, the output can be latched using a latch enable pin, enabling the capture of single-event signals or fault conditions. With its industry-leading performance, this RF power detector excels in timing measurements, fault detection, and RF power monitoring in microwave systems.
The device is capable of measuring RF input signals ranging from -24dBm to +16dBm. This wide dynamic range is achieved through a programmable gain output amplifier with four gain settings, controlled via two binary-weighted logic input pins. This feature enhances sensitivity when measuring low-level signals. Moreover, the output amplifier supports envelope demodulation of RF modulated signals up to 75MHz, making it suitable for a variety of communication applications.
To ensure accurate and consistent performance under different environmental conditions, the LTC5564 includes a temperature compensation circuit. This ensures stable and repeatable RF power measurements, even in fluctuating temperatures.
The LTC5564 is ideal for use in microwave communications, radar systems, telemetry, RF power amplifier monitoring, automatic level control, test equipment, and cellular networks. It can be powered by a single 3.3V or 5V supply, with a typical current consumption of 44mA. The device is rated for operation over a wide temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
