German grid expansion will cost 20 billion euros

The "Business Daily" website of Germany reported on December 27, Cologne that some wind power plants in Germany are limited by grid equipment and cannot put all their energy into the grid, so they are eager to expand the grid. However, Jochen Homann, head of the German Federal Power Grid, stated that the new energy grid from northern Germany to the south will not be expanded until 2014 to 2015. Because, first of all, the "Power Grid Expansion Law" has to be voted by the parliament; after that, there are approval procedures for the expansion application process, regional planning, and construction plans. At present, new energy transmission lines from the north to the south have not yet been determined. This task should be completed by the Federal Grid of Germany. However, Hausmann believes that to accomplish this task, the federal and state levels must work closely together. Under normal circumstances, transmission lines will be built along railway lines, highway lines and waterways. Based on this, operators expect that the total investment of 2,800 lines will reach about 20 billion euros (approximately 164.9 billion yuan). Hao Man said that the energy transformation will not be cheap, but the sun and wind have no cost, so in the long term, energy costs will be reduced, and grid expansion is a wise investment.
