BMW has always been known for its performance and driving dynamics, but not all models are perfect. Some cars may have had poor repairs or issues like oil burning, yet they still remain top sellers. This shows that BMW excels in other areas—like chassis design and driving control—which offer a unique and engaging driving experience. However, many buyers don’t focus on comfort alone, especially when it comes to luxury vehicles.

It’s quite common for sports car manufacturers to create comfortable models, and BMW is no exception. The 7 Series is one of their flagship models, but in 2016, BMW introduced a sportier version called the M760Li xDrive. This high-performance variant features a 6.6L V12 twin-turbo engine producing 600 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. It's one of the most powerful engines available in a civilian vehicle.

In 2017, BMW launched the 2018 7 Series, continuing to add more sporty elements to this luxurious model. While BMW is known as a sports brand, the M7 series came later than expected. Competitors like Mercedes-Benz and Audi have long offered high-performance variants such as AMG and S8, which makes BMW’s late entry a bit surprising.

The new 7 Series introduced the M Sport package for the first time, with 13 different models based on configuration. The price range starts at 888,000 yuan and goes up to 26.58 million. Some models, like the 730Li, 740Li, and 740Li xDrive, come with both M Sport and Luxury packages, while the 750Li xDrive only includes the M Sport option. The standard wheel sizes were also upgraded, with 730Li getting 19-inch wheels, and 740Li and 740Li xDrive coming with 20-inch rims.

Higher trims, like the 740Li xDrive and above, offer custom options such as four metallic paint colors, six types of Merino leather, three wood trims, two Alcantara roof options, and exclusive rims. These details show how much attention BMW has given to personalization and luxury.

Powertrain options vary across the lineup. The 730Li uses a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivering 190kW (258Ps) and 400Nm of torque. The 740Li features a 3.0L turbocharged six-cylinder engine with 240kW (326Ps) and 450Nm. The 750Li gets a 4.4L V8 twin-turbo engine, offering 330kW (449Ps) and 650Nm. The M760Li xDrive, the flagship, is powered by a massive 6.6L V12 twin-turbo engine with 448kW (610Ps) and 800Nm of torque. All models come with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

A plug-in hybrid version, the 740Le, is also available in several markets. It combines a 2.0L engine with an electric motor, producing 240kW (326Ps) and offering a 42km all-electric range.

China is the world’s largest luxury car market, and demand is strong. BMW’s 2018 7 Series reflects this by introducing more personalized features, including the M Sport package. With an average customer age of 39, BMW is aiming to attract younger buyers, who are tech-savvy and open to new innovations. Tesla’s popularity in China is a good example of how young consumers embrace new trends.

However, competition is fierce. Mercedes-Benz and Audi are also pushing high-end models like the S-Class and A8, which are well-equipped and competitive. Despite this, the 7 Series remains a strong contender, combining luxury, performance, and cutting-edge technology.
