According to the performance of each region, the total LED output value of Taiwan in 2011 (plus upstream epitaxial wafers/wafers) reached US$4.537 billion (exchange rate 1:30), although it was 0.4% lower than the US$4.555 billion in 2010, but The total output value of the industrial chain is measured by the scale of the industry. The scale of the LED industry in Taiwan still ranks first in the world.
From the perspective of regional competition, the Korean industry actively operates the LED industry and extends its reach into the lighting field to launch low-priced products. The output value of the Korean LED industry is also nearly 5% higher than that of 2010, but the overall LED output value is 3.352 billion. The US dollar is still lagging behind Taiwan and Japan; in addition, Korean LEDs are still inferior to Taiwanese manufacturers due to their current production capacity and production scale. Therefore, LED components are still purchased from Taiwanese manufacturers under cost considerations.
However, due to the largest proportion of LEDs in the LED industry chain and the core competition, the competition between Korean and Taiwanese players is still fierce. According to statistics, the penetration rate of LED road lighting market in 2012 is expected to reach 50%. The Korean government is also trying to give support to its own industry on LED road lighting.
It is understood that in 2011 Taiwan has completed the replacement of 696,700 traffic signs, replacing traditional incandescent lamps with LED lighting. Following the promotion of the replacement of LED traffic, in 2012, 2 billion replacements will be added and 14 street lights will be used as LED street lights, plus the original 180 million yuan will be replaced by the three provinces of Keelung, Hsinchu and Chiayi. Under the jurisdiction of the city street lights, 2012 will be the year of Taiwan LED street lights.
