[High-tech LED News] The US Department of Energy is accepting applications for energy-saving lighting technology developers until December 15, 2011. The Obama administration has approved $10 million in solid-state lighting (such as LED and organic LED) manufacturing R&D funding. This is the third round of financial support for solid-state lighting R&D projects.
Fund applicants should focus on using better manufacturing equipment, process and process controls to reduce the cost of LEDs and organic LEDs. Approximately 2 to 4 projects will receive funding.
The US Department of Energy hopes to reduce solid-state lighting by a quarter of its electricity consumption by 2030, which will save $15 billion, which is equivalent to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from 21 million vehicles.
