According to an AdvancedTelevision report, TiVo recently acquired Aereo, an OTA service that was bankrupted due to violations of law, and released an in-depth investigation report on over-the-air (OTA) viewers. The report pointed out that the original satellite TV service subscribers accounted for a relatively high percentage of "wiping users" (ie, canceling pay-TV service users).
TiVo's president and CEO OmRoRogers said: "The data we have collected shows a clear trend, that is, satellite TV users are more inclined than cable users to order pay-TV services instead of OTADVR (Wireless Digital Video Recorder). The survey began in late 2014 and visited more than 500 new buyers of TiVoRoamioOTADVR. The survey showed that 32% of pay TV subscribers were originally satellite TV DVR users. In addition, respondents indicated that the high monthly fees and dissatisfaction with the overall function were the main reasons for their shift to OTA services.
