The e-Community Alliance recently unveiled the next-generation Raspberry Pi 2 B-type board, marking a significant step forward in the world of compact computing. Launched at The Shard in London by the Raspberry Pi Foundation's trading company and e-Community, this new model is six times faster than its predecessor and comes with 1GB of RAM, making it more powerful and versatile for a wide range of applications. Priced at RMB 240, it’s an affordable yet advanced option for developers and hobbyists alike.
This second-generation board features a Broadcom BCM2836 ARMv7 quad-core processor running up to 900MHz, significantly boosting performance compared to the previous model. It offers a more stable and responsive user experience, making it ideal for complex projects and multitasking. The Raspberry Pi 2 is fully compatible with all existing Raspberry Pi projects, ensuring that users can seamlessly transition to the new model without losing access to their previous work.
The board also includes extended GPIO pins, improved power management, and support for up to four USB devices—perfect for connecting external hard drives or other peripherals. Its 40-pin GPIO interface allows for greater expansion, enabling users to add sensors, modules, and custom boards. The front 26-pin headers remain identical to earlier models, ensuring full backward compatibility with existing A and B boards.
e-Farnell, one of the leading distributors of Raspberry Pi products, praised the new release, noting that they’ve sold over 2.8 million units globally. According to Claire Doyle, global head of e-Farnell, the Raspberry Pi 2 offers better performance at a lower cost, opening up new possibilities for innovation in the electronics industry.
E-Community has also launched a range of accessories and solutions tailored for Raspberry Pi users, including PiFace, BitScope, Cirrus Logic Audio Card modules, and EnOcean products. These tools provide comprehensive options for IoT, motor control, audio, and FPGA development.
Eben Upton, CEO of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, highlighted that the Raspberry Pi 2 represents a major leap forward. With six times the processing power and double the memory, it’s not only more capable but also 100% compatible with older models. This makes it an excellent choice for both developers and enthusiasts looking to push the boundaries of what can be done with a small computer.
Since its launch in 2012, the Raspberry Pi has sold over 4 million units worldwide. e-Community has played a key role in supporting the ecosystem, creating over 30 unique accessories and fostering a vibrant community. With more than 280,000 registered members, the platform has become one of the largest online communities for engineers and hobbyists to share ideas and collaborate on projects.
The Raspberry Pi 2 also delivers a smoother and more immersive user experience, especially in gaming. For example, in Minecraft, it handles complex actions like TNT explosions with ease, offering a more enjoyable and responsive gameplay. Fans around the world will be excited to upgrade their existing setups, as the new board brings enhanced performance through software updates.
You can purchase the Raspberry Pi 2 from the e-Community platform starting February 2nd. For more details, visit [http://releasd.com/2c63](http://releasd.com/2c63) (login password: icecream) to view videos and images of the product.
