Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) will be the best lighting solution for energy saving and human eye and physiological safety. OLED lighting technology has more than a dozen excellent characteristics, and is the best lighting source in human history. Energy-saving lighting is a necessary choice without damaging the eyes and the body, but lighting suitable for daytime work is not necessarily equally suitable for night breaks. Under the leadership of the European Union, many countries have clearly listed the timetable for the ban on incandescent bulbs year by year. Since incandescent bulbs produce only 15 lumens of light per watt of energy, they will gradually enter history. The incandescent bulbs have been around for 130 years, which is quite comparable to candles. For a short period of time. The fluorescent tubes that were born 60 years ago have energy efficiency of 60 to 90 lumens per watt, but in addition to saving energy, many other shortcomings and possible problems are also worthy of attention.

However, before the incandescent bulbs were forced to be phased out by policy, no more complete light source technology was produced. Although incandescent bulb lighting technology consumes more electricity and generates high heat, it also has the advantages of continuous gentleness, no flickering and eye protection. At this stage, although the fluorescent lamps are power-saving, they are about to be eliminated due to problems such as mercury, ultraviolet rays, intermittent spikes and flickering.

Nowadays, problems arising from poor lighting have emerged one by one. How to accelerate the pace of healthy and energy-saving lighting technology and practical product development is a challenge for scientists. The following will compare existing electronic lighting technologies and briefly describe the characteristics of energy saving, health and quality of OLED lighting.

With tunable temperature / high color rendering OLED advantage

According to the evaluation of the Japanese Yamagata University Institute of Science and Technology, Professor Ikebukuro, using OLED lighting, by 2020, it is expected to reduce 6.7 million tons, about 2.3% of carbon dioxide emissions. OLEDs are more energy efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs and close to fluorescent tubes, and because of their energy-saving potential, the US Department of Energy invested $30 million annually in research and development in 2000. In terms of human health, unlike power-saving light bulbs, OLEDs do not contain mercury and have no ultraviolet light. Fluorescent lamps use mercury vapor to form ultraviolet light, and then ultraviolet light excites the phosphor to emit light. Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) also partially excite visible light with ultraviolet light. Forming white light, if exposed to ultraviolet light, it will cause harm to the human eye. And OLED only needs a few small batteries, or a 9 volt special-type battery, it can drive the light, because of its low voltage, it can be carried safely.

In 2009, Taiwan’s Qingda published a solar-like OLED with a color temperature ranging from 2,000 to 8,000 K, covering 3,000 K in the morning, 5,500 K in the noon sun and 2,500 K in the setting sun (Figure 1). The different light colors and color temperatures emitted by the sun during sunrise, sunset and daytime, in addition to giving people different atmospheres, can regulate the physiological clock and rhythm of humans and creatures (Figure 2). Light with low brightness and color temperature does not prevent the secretion of melatonin that inhibits tumors.

Whether it is LED, incandescent bulb or fluorescent tube, there are glare problems, among which LED is the most serious, and OLED is a natural plane light source, no concentrating glare of light, suitable for indoor or interior lighting, and will not flash, Can be used as eye protection lamps. On the other hand, LEDs or fluorescent tubes have sharp light color problems, among which fluorescent lamps are the most obvious, but OLED light is soft and close to natural light (Figure 3). In addition, incandescent bulbs use 95% of electricity to generate heat and infrared light, so they are hot light. In contrast, OLED spectrum is controllable and emits almost no infrared light, so it is also called cold light. At the same time, the LED of the point-type light source has serious high heat problems, which may lead to a decrease in luminous efficiency of the component, deterioration of the package rubber and shortened service life, and the OLED is in the form of a sheet, which is easier to dissipate heat.
