I recently repaired a Skyworth LCD TV model 32L01HM that had been in for a few days. The customer mentioned: "After watching it for an hour or so, there's sound but the screen goes black, and sometimes tapping the back of the TV brings the image back for a while before disappearing again. Could it be a loose cable?" I chuckled and said, "That’s possible, but it might actually be due to a component overheating." Then I asked him to leave his contact number and let me investigate further.
After he left, I placed the TV on the table, connected the AV cable, and everything looked normal. I let it run while doing other tasks. After about two hours, no issues appeared. But then, suddenly, the screen went black with no backlight. However, the sound was still working. I walked over and touched the back of the TV, but after just a short time, it turned off again. My heart started racing — could it be a bad connection with the lamp?
I removed the back cover and first checked if the power board had any desoldered connections. Using a magnifying glass, I carefully inspected the board and found nothing obvious. Then, as I was scanning the board, I noticed a cable socket with several solder points that looked questionable. This cable was responsible for sending voltage signals to the motherboard. Was this the issue? I took a closer look and found a ceramic capacitor on the power supply. I resoldered it, tested the TV again, and after several hours, it worked perfectly without any blackouts.
I immediately called the customer. He agreed to the repair, and he took the TV home that day. Over the following days, he didn’t call back, which meant the problem was fixed. This time, I really surprised the customer. 😊
