When working in the field, you may need to connect a touch screen to a Profibus-DP network. This can be done using the PB-B-MODBUS module. Below is a brief guide on how to implement this setup, using the eView touch screen as an example. This process will help you understand how to integrate the touch screen into the system effectively. 1. Network Architecture: In a Profibus-DP network, a Siemens PLC (with DP communication capabilities) acts as the DP master station, while the PB-B-MODBUS module functions as the DP slave station. On the Modbus side, the eView touch screen (such as the MT4400T model) serves as the Modbus Master, and the PB-B-MODBUS module operates as the Modbus Slave. (See Figure 1-1)
Figure 1-1 2. Profibus Network Configuration Process: In this example, WinLC is used instead of a hard PLC as the DP master. However, users can choose their preferred DP master based on their specific requirements. Here’s a quick overview of adding the PB-B-MODBUS DP slave and some key considerations: (1) First, import the GSD file corresponding to the PB-B-MS/V32 module into Step7. Then, refresh the classification table under "HW Config..." (Update Catalog) and check the right-side category bar for the module. (2) Configure the PB-B-MODBUS module on the DP network. Assign a DP slave address to the module and set the DIP switch accordingly. Next, go to the parameter configuration page and set the serial communication parameters (which are essential for Modbus communication). At the same time, configure the Modbus slave station number. Since the PB-B-MODBUS module acts as a Modbus Slave on the Modbus side, make sure that SW1 on the back of the module is set to Slave mode (refer to the PB-B-MODBUS manual for details). (See Figure 2-1) (3) Finally, insert the required communication data modules into the slot. Typically, 8 bits in (0 × × × ×), 8 bits out (1 × × × ×), 3 words in (4 × × × ×), and 3 words out (3 × × × ×) are added to the routine. This setup allows seamless integration between the touch screen and the Profibus-DP network, making it easier to monitor and control industrial processes.
