RIM sells 50,000 new tablet PlayBooks on the same day

RIM sells 50,000 new tablet PlayBooks on the same day RIM's new Tablet PlayBook went on sale on April 19 and exceeded 50,000 on the first day.

Mike Abramsky, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets, an investment bank, said in a research report to customers: “Although it is too early to judge the sales of PlayBook, its performance on the day of listing is better than that of Motorola Xoom. Samsung's Galaxy Tab tablet."

Of course, the PlayBook cannot be compared to the Apple iPad. The iPad sold 300,000 units on the same day it was launched in April 2010. So far, iPad and iPad 2 sales have reached 19.5 million. However, in the highly competitive tablet market, 50,000 sales of the PlayBook on the same day will be regarded as RIM's success. Abramsky said that RIM is ready to release 500,000 PlayBooks before the first quarter of 2012.

The PlayBook configuration and price are on par with the iPad 2, starting at $499.99.
