From traditional old hospitals to modern hospitals

As a first-class international metropolis, Shanghai needs to build a first-class social medical security system. Huashan Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Fudan University is a well-known old hospital in Shanghai and even in the country. The hardware and medical equipment configuration of the hospital is modernized as soon as possible, and the international standard is the only way for its development.
Huashan Hospital has three major advantages: First, the hospital has a long history. It is the first international Red Cross hospital in China. It was established in 1907 and opened in 1910. It has a history of nearly 100 years. Secondly, the hospital has strong medical, educational and scientific research capabilities and has many fields in medicine. First-class professional talents; Thirdly, Huashan Hospital is a key hospital in Shanghai. It has made outstanding contributions to the medical system of the city by talents, achievements and benefits. However, as an old hospital, Huashan Hospital has three obvious characteristics of the same status as some other old hospitals in Shanghai. First, due to the restrictions on urban land use, it is very difficult to expand on the spot, and it can only be adapted to local conditions. Secondly, due to the constraints of the investment economic power, it is impossible to concentrate on construction in a short period of time. It can only be gradually improved in stages and in batches. Thirdly, it is also a common problem in the construction of old hospitals in Shanghai. The lack of comprehensive overall planning has resulted in a chaotic and disorderly overall layout.
To this end, the hospital has proposed a one-time unified planning of the hospital, clear objectives, reasonable phased, batch implementation of transformation, and inject new vitality into the development of brand-name hospitals.
Master plan
We are fortunate to have made multiple rounds of overall planning in line with the hospital renovation plan. The general idea is to adopt a method of collecting less and growing more, splitting and demolishing, splitting one piece and building a little; leaving more open space as a greening and transportation land to improve the current situation of old hospitals' transportation, environment and greening. In the way of "snowballing", the planning will be changed from disorderly to orderly, and the transition from old hospitals to modern hospitals will be gradually completed.
The hospital plan is based on the retained original medical building and is rationally arranged according to the functional partition structure of modern hospitals. The south side of the hospital consists of the existing 20-story ward building (built in the 1980s) and the 21-story ward complex that was delivered this year to form the hospital's inpatient area. The inpatient area has an independent entrance and exit on the side of Changle Road. Hospitalization and visitation can be easily accessed. On the north side of the hospital is the upcoming emergency door building. Its entrance and exit faces the adjacent Huashan Road and Urumqi Road, and the traffic is extremely convenient. Between the two is a 7-storey former inpatient ward building, which can serve both the inpatient and emergency areas. The three functional areas are relatively independent and do not interfere with each other. At the same time, there is a double-decked air corridor that connects them together to form the entire medical center of Huashan Hospital. The hospital teaching and office area is located in the upper part of the emergency department building. There are independent entrances and exits for the interior of the hospital. There are also planned living facilities on the southwest side of the hospital, such as staff canteens and resident doctors' dormitory.
