Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced two new 1.25M current mode boost converters specifically tailored for white LED driver applications. The two models are SiP12510 and SiP12511 devices with an input voltage of 2.5-6V, SiP12510 capable of outputting 17V and SiP12511 capable of outputting 28V.
The package is SOT23-6, and the new device offers a compact LED driver solution with minimal external component requirements. Both the SiP12510 and SiP12511 have a built-in power switch and a 1.25MHz oscillator. This high frequency reduces the inductor volume and saves board space. This LED driver incorporates many protection features, including overvoltage protection, and a cycle-by-cycle 0.55A protection for use on three 20mA serial outputs. When it exceeds 165 ° C, overheat protection will cut off the line.
In order to better adjust the brightness of the LED, the SiP12510 and SiP12511 support both linear and PWM regulation techniques. The built-in three-phase soft-start function effectively reduces the peak current during the startup phase by limiting the current ramp up. Each device achieves a feedback voltage of only 0.1V and a high switching frequency to achieve high conversion efficiency over the entire industrial temperature range of -40 to +85 °C. With up to 90% conversion efficiency and less than 1uA of quiescent current, the small form factor makes the SiP12510 and SiP12511 ideal for portable applications such as cell phones, PDAs, and digital cameras in space-constrained applications.
Samples of SiP12510 and SiP12511 are available. Mass production will begin in the second quarter of 2007, and large orders will need to be booked 13 weeks in advance.
