Delphi's gesture control technology uses TIme of Flight (ToF) technology, which is identical to the gesture control technology that Volkswagen exhibited at CES Asia.
Using ToF technology for gesture control requires a 3D camera to work with. The purpose of the camera is to monitor and recognize gesture changes.
The camera has built-in infrared LED light emitting device and receiving device to analyze the change of gesture according to the time difference between light emission and acceptance. The resulting data is passed to the control unit of the in-vehicle system, and the control unit calls up the function corresponding to the recognized gesture. 
Delphi gesture control implementation principle
Delphi has an infrared camera mounted in a lining on the top of the vehicle (usually for sunglasses) that detects the gestures of the center armrest and the shift lever to the center of the screen, ie at the waist to the shoulder The location between.
Delphi presets some actions for this gesture control system: (the camera is at the top, looking from the top down)
- Open your palm to the right: hang up or cancel the operation
- Single finger move back and forth: answer the call, select or confirm the prompt
- Two fingers do not move: pause/play music, custom action
- Turn one finger clockwise: increase the volume, zoom out the navigation map
- Turn one finger counterclockwise: decrease the volume, zoom in on the navigation map
- Five fingers gather in a circle, move to the right: next song, back to the main menu
- Five fingers gather in a circle, move to the left: the previous song, return to the main menu, specifically watching the video online.
When the car manufacturer actually configures, he can directly use the defined gestures, and can also modify or add according to the culture and habits of different markets.
This technology was also demonstrated by Delphi at the CES at the beginning of the year. According to Delphi, the BMW 7 Series is equipped with Delphi's gesture recognition module. Delphi's technology will be introduced to the market with the launch of the BMW 7 Series.
