The dilemma and outlet of China's lighting and lighting enterprises (Figure 1)

Dilemma

Cost increase profit sharply

In recent years, with the continuous rise in the prices of raw materials such as wood, oil, steel, etc., the production cost of enterprises has soared, among which the price of copper has risen by more than 300%, and the price of aluminum has risen by about 60%, according to relevant information. Before and after 2002, copper prices have been hovering between $1,336 and $1,773 per ton. However, by 2007, even copper prices had fallen back to the lowest point, at $5,600 per ton. In the second half of 2002, aluminum prices were still at $1,300 per ton. Below ton, and from September to October 2007, aluminum prices actually rose to 2,500 US dollars / ton, other lighting lighting products, such as plastics, steel, wood, etc., the price increase is also more than 10%. According to relevant data collected by this newspaper, the total operating cost of lighting lighting enterprises in 2007 was about 30% compared with that of 2002.

Under the pressure of rising costs, the majority of lighting companies have shown their brilliance. Some companies have to shrink their product lines or use alternative materials. For example, companies producing copper chandeliers have to give up the production line of copper lamps and start to produce resin chandeliers. . In 2006, under the pressure of copper prices, some companies in Shunde and Zhongshan even took risks. A large number of copper-clad aluminum was used instead of copper wire to reduce production costs and attracted great attention in the industry. At the same time, the fierce market competition has caused the lighting and lighting enterprises to fall into a dilemma: the price increase means that the products lack sufficient competitiveness in the market; the price increase means that the profits of the enterprises have shrunk greatly, and the development of the enterprises has been challenged as never before.

Patent missing passive beating

If the price increase of raw materials is a "natural disaster", then the lack of awareness of intellectual property protection should be a "man-made disaster."

In recent years, driven by the hot investment in real estate, China's home furnishing industry has developed rapidly. However, due to factors such as low product technology content, low investment requirements, and low industry thresholds, the lack of patent core technology has been plaguing home furnishing enterprises. In the face of the recent IPR campaigns initiated by foreign companies, Chinese home furnishing companies are in a passive position to cope.

In the lighting industry, “takenism” has been popular for a long time. The industry has spread such a saying: “Taiwan-funded enterprises are similar to Europe and the United States, domestic first-class enterprises are similar to Taiwan-funded enterprises, domestic second-class enterprises are like first-class enterprises, and the last-end enterprises are similar. Who". Although the statement may be somewhat extreme, it really reflects two problems that cannot be ignored: First, the level of independent research and development of domestic lighting companies needs to be improved; second, the awareness of intellectual property protection of enterprises is seriously lagging behind. At present, there are not many cases in which foreign lighting companies sued domestic lighting companies for counterfeiting and infringement, but the intellectual property lawsuits in the domestic lighting industry have increased, and even intensified. In 2002, the cocoon counterfeit incident surfaced; in 2003, several large lanterns in the ancient town were resorted to by Taiwanese-funded enterprises in Taiwan for counterfeiting; in 2004, Lixing lighting was heavily attacked, and the counterfeiters were furious and angry. To reach the peak of history; in the industry hotspots in 2005, there were the courts of Heshan Yinyu Lighting Co., Ltd. and Zhongshan Weilai Lighting Co., Ltd.; in 2006, the lawsuits of Westminster and Haohao Lighting became another major industry. Focus... In addition, the cross-border lawsuits of Donglin Electronics and Siemens in Germany on the "Firefly" trademark have also sounded the alarm for domestic enterprises. However, the awareness of intellectual property protection in most enterprises has not yet been awakened. Whether they are sent to the dock by others because of infringement, or whether they are depressed by others because they are not protected. All in all, the lack of awareness of intellectual property protection has caused more and more lighting companies to be in a passive beating situation.
